Who I Am

This website serves as a digital portfolio of myself, Chris Shuknecht. It also acts as an informational resource for those who may want to work together. I’ve been working in website design and development since 2002 and couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I take pride in my work, and aim for perfection on every design and in every line of code I develop. Because of this, I enjoy the fact that I can stay small and personally connected to each project.

What I Do

I strive to build websites that people will love to use. I give a great deal of thought to the user and how they access the information they need. I’m also a firm believer in Web Standards and ensure that the current projects I work on use nothing but valid XHTML and CSS along with unobtrusive Javascript. By providing work that adheres to Web Standards, websites that I create will have a greater range of accessibility across varying web browsers and the growing mobile device market. Web Standards compliance also brings benefits such as relatively easy website maintenance and a search engine friendly foundation to add marketability.

While most of my work involves creating websites that are Web Standards compliant, I also include flash content into projects that benefit from dynamic user experience that it helps to produce. Following a progressive enhancement methodology, I believe that flash plays an important role some projects, but I’m not one to develop a web-based project entirely in flash. There is a time and place for XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash, etc. Some projects may necessitate each of these, while others may include only a few technologies.

The enticing challenge for me in any web development project, is create an accessible web experience. Because of this, an ideal project would allow me to focus on the front-end development, where I can have a direct influence on how the website is viewed and utilized. With that being said, all of the projects I complete follow a basic workflow, where project analysis, design, and development all play an important role.

Who I Work With

I tend to work primarily with individuals and small businesses that allow me flexibility and provide me opportunities for direct, personal involvement with every project. While I prefer to accomplish most tasks myself to ensure your needs are being met, occasionally larger projects may demand skill sets that I do not possess. Such a situation will lead me to work with others to provide you with the best product possible. Every project is different and each provides a unique set of demands, challenges and rewards. Because of this, proper planning is a necessity, which means I give greater consideration to projects without tight deadlines.

These generalities provide a glimpse of my typical experiences, but do not necessarily dictate future website design and development project involvement. I strongly recommend contacting me with any inquiries.
